State Stars & Astronomical Symbols:

Big Dipper illustration by Erin
With billions and billions of stars (smile to Carl Sagan), only
two states have officially* recognized astonomical symbols:
Delaware star:
Delaware Diamond
Utah astronomical symbol:
Utah centennial star:
Beehive Cluster
Dubhe

*Though not recognized as official state symbols, Minnesota's nickname is The North Star State; Alaska's flag features the Big Dipper (Ursa major) and the North star; and the North star is also found on Maine's state flag as a symbol of leadership. Symbolic star shapes are found on many state seals and flags, and of course on the star-spangled banner.
