About State Symbols USA

Mission Statement:

State Symbols USA is dedicated to encouraging appreciation for our natural resources and pride in our cultural heritage. We emphasize conservation, provide resources for further learning, and motivate participation in government affairs that may affect our natural and cultural treasures. A portion of our proceeds will be contributed to the preservation and protection of the plants, insects, and wildlife portrayed. Donations (some of the people who make State Symbols USA possible through their generous contributions! )

Expansion Plans:

We have exciting plans for State Symbols USA. Once we complete the basic symbol pages we can start adding:

Bird Sounds: sound files for all state birds.

Tips and Templates: advice on petitioning state congress for new symbols including:

  • How To Begin
  • Introducing a Bill
  • Letter Writing Campaigns
  • Model Letter Format
  • State department website links

Trivia Quiz Chat Room with questions on wildlife, American history, folklore, customs and crafts, conservation, nature, environment, etc.

Contests, Awards, and Projects related to instituting or preserving state symbols or endangered natural and cultural resources.

Feature Articles: historic landmarks, special events, conservation success stories, Take Action! alerts, etc.

Expanded National Section including National Parks, historical and geographical sections.

State-Specific Links: LINKS page for each state (links to state-specific websites relating to culture, wildlife, conservation, arts, history, natural and historic landmarks, parks and recreation, maps, census and more).

CMS (Content Management System): Plans are under way for transition to a Content Management System provider to allow visitors to contribute to content and illustration (photos, video, etc.). We would appreciate feedback and advise from our visitors!
