Oregon State Insect

The Oregon swallowtail butterfly (Papilio oregonius) was designated as Oregon’s official state insect in 1979. This strikingly beautiful butterfly is a true native of the Northwest. U.S. postage stamp featuring the Oregon Swallowtail butterfly, ''Papilio oregonius" The Oregon Swallowtail butterfly can be seen in the lower sagebrush canyons of the Columbia River and its tributaries, including the Snake River drainage.
